BASEBALL: Am-Po earns Ripley championship

Mar. 25—It was a strong tournament for the Amber-Pocasset baseball team.

The Panthers entered Ripley's tournament as the eighth-ranked team in Class A, and they exited the tournament with a championship and four dominant performances. Am-Po went 4-0 in the tournament to secure a tournament championship.

And Am-Po's dominance came on offense and defense.

Offensively, the Panthers scored double-digit runs in three of the four games and averaged more than 12 runs per game. Defensively, Am-Po earned two shutout victories and allowed just five runs throughout the tournament.

Am-Po outscored its four opponents by a combined score of 49-5.

Am-Po's tournament run came mostly against ranked teams. Three of the four teams Am-Po played entered the tournament in the top 20 of their respective classes.

Am-Po's first win came against a Hammon team ranked 13th in Class B at the time, and the Panthers rolled in a 15-2 victory before a 10-0 win over Barnsdall in the team's second game of the tournament.

Am-Po then battled Sterling in a matchup of two teams ranked in Class A's top 10. Sterling entered the game ranked seventh in the class, but the Panthers shut the team out in an 8-0 victory.

The Panthers finished off the tournament against a team ranked in a bigger class. Morrison entered the tournament as the 18th-ranked team in 2A, and the Panthers rolled to a 16-3 victory in that matchup.

Am-Po is now ranked sixth in Class A.
