Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens are Hall of Famers — at least according to one Internet-only electorate.
Bonds and Clemens were each elected to a virtual Hall of Fame by members of the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America, a group of web writers and bloggers who bill themselves as an alternative to the Baseball Writers Association of America, which officially votes on entry into Cooperstown. The IBWAA holds its election at the same time and uses the same threshold for inclusion as the BBWAA.
You need 75 percent of the vote, and Bonds and Clemens got it, along with Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Trevor Hoffman and Mike Mussina. The group had already elected both Vladimir Guerrero and Edgar Martinez to its Hall of Fame, so they weren’t on the ballot. Here are the full results:
The 2018 @IBWAA #HOF inductees are: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Trevor Hoffman, Mike Mussina, Chipper Jones and Jim Thome. Edgar (2016) and Vlad (2017) previously elected. The @IBWAA is not affiliated with the @officalBBWAA in any way. #FineByUs #SwatTheVote pic.twitter.com/L4Peso2QHs

Shout out to the one IBWAA member who voted for Aubrey Huff!
Obviously, it’s a little easier to get approval from the IBWAA than the actual BBWAA, since Bonds and Clemens won’t be elected into Cooperstown when the results are released at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Jones and Thome are considered locks. Hoffman is right on the bubble and Mussina is close but probably won’t get in.
At least Bonds and Clemens have this to celebrate. Hope someone was able to tell Clemens the good news while he was out golfing with Toby Keith in Cabo.
