Baltimore Sun high school Athletes of the Week (Jan. 1-7): Mount Saint Joseph's Carter Nogle and Sparrows Point's Myah Hazelton

Each week, The Baltimore Sun will recognize one high school player from a boys sport and one from a girls sport for their athletic achievements.

Boys sport Athlete of the Week: Carter Nogle, Mount Saint Joseph

The 139-pound senior was instrumental in the No. 1 Gaels' wins over No. 3 Archbishop Spalding and No. 7 St. Frances in a highly-anticipated quad meet Wednesday. The Air Force Academy commit claimed a 14-2 major decision over Spalding's Zane Leitzel and scored a first-period pin over St. Frances' Noah Shird. The two-time Maryland Independent Schools state champion, who owns a 21-5 record this season, also recorded a forfeit in the Gaels' 61-18 win over Archbishop Curley on Wednesday.

Girls sport Athlete of the Week: Myah Hazelton, Sparrows Point, basketball

The 6-foot-4 senior forward continued her sensational season with two more double-doubles in wins over Chesapeake-BC and Perry Hall last week. In the Pointers' 45-43 win over Chesapeake on Wednesday, she finished with 24 points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots. She followed with 30 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in a 56-31 win over Perry Hall on Friday. With the team now 7-1, the Virginia Tech commit has recorded doubles-doubles in each game and averages 20 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and two steals per game.
