Baltimore Sun high school Athletes of the Week (Jan. 8-14): Glenelg Country’s Patrick Curtin and Fallston’s Ayla Galloway

Each week, The Baltimore Sun will recognize one high school player from a boys sport and one from a girls sport for their athletic achievements.

Boys sport Athlete of the Week: Patrick Curtin, Glenelg Country, basketball

The junior guard led the Dragons to three MIAA A Conference wins against ranked opponents last week, averaging 36.5 points. Curtin saved his best for last as Glenelg Country knocked off No. 1 Mount Saint Joseph, 63-62, in overtime Friday, finishing with 36 points and scoring the game-winning basket with 0.8 seconds to play. On Jan. 8, he had 37 points and 10 rebounds in a 76-70 victory over No. 13 John Carroll. In Wednesday’s 65-49 win over No. 2 McDonogh, he totaled 37 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Girls sport Athlete of the Week: Ayla Galloway, Fallston, basketball

Double-doubles have long been the norm for the senior center, including two last week in wins over Rising Sun and C. Milton Wright that have the Cougars (8-2) perfect in Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference play with a 6-0 mark. In a game for first place against Rising Sun on Jan. 8, Galloway had 14 points, 12 rebounds and three steals in a 46-35 win. In Thursday’s 48-43 win over C. Milton Wright, she had a triple-double with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists. She has recorded a double-double in all 10 games this season.
