Badgers running back not expected to be big part of spring practices

The Wisconsin football team is a long way from their 2024 campaign, but they are preparing for their spring practices, which running back Chez Mellusi will likely be limited or unavailable for.

Head coach Luke Fickell said Wednesday on ESPN’s “Wilde & Tausch” that the running back “won’t get a big load, if any load” at the team’s spring practices in March.

Mellusi suffered a fractured fibula in Wisconsin’s 38-17 win over Purdue on Sept. 22, missing the Badgers’ final nine games of the 2023 season. With leading rusher Braelon Allen moving on to the NFL, Mellusi will return for his final season of eligibility in 2024, which will be his fourth year in Madison.

He will be Wisconsin’s lead-back in 2024, regardless of whether he practices in the spring or not.
