Avalanche trade C Soderberg to Coyotes for D Connauton

The Arizona Coyotes acquired center Carl Soderberg from the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, receiving defenseman Kevin Connauton and a 2020 third-round draft choice in return.

"Carl is a versatile, 200-foot player who has a history of being productive and playing tough minutes," said John Chayka, Arizona's general manager and president of hockey operations. "He will be a stabilizer in our lineup and gives our coaching staff lots of flexibility."

Soderberg, 33, played 82 games with Colorado in 2018-19, scoring 49 points (23 goals, 26 assists). His 23 goals were a career high.

Drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the second round of the 2004 NHL Draft, Soderberg chose to play in his native Sweden for 10 seasons before entering the NHL in 2013 with the Boston Bruins, who earlier had acquired his rights. In 482 career games with the Bruins and Avalanche, he has 245 points (86 goals and 159 points).

Connauton, 29, spent the first two seasons of his career with the Dallas Stars (2013-15), followed by a season and a half with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Coyotes claimed him off waivers in January 2016.

In 50 games with the Coyotes last season, Connauton scored eight points (one goal, seven assists). In 310 career NHL games, he has 27 goals and 49 assists.
