Austin Dillon’s points total has been reduced by 10 points.
Dillon, who started on the pole for Sunday’s race at Talladega, was penalized Tuesday by NASCAR for a deck-lid problem. NASCAR said in the penalty report that “body filler” had been added to the deck lid of Dillon’s car.
It’s important to note that the issue was found Saturday, before Dillon qualified for the race. He finished 14th.
Car chief Greg Ebert has been suspended for the upcoming race at Dover and crew chief Danny Stockman has been fined $25,000.
Dillon now has 243 points in 2019 and drops from 13th to 14th in the points standings. He’s still provisionally one of the 16 members of the playoffs at this point in the season.
Austin Wayne Self reinstated
NASCAR also said Tuesday that Truck Series driver Austin Wayne Self had been reinstated from his indefinite suspension for failing a drug test. Self was randomly tested before the season-opening race at Talladega and raced in the first three races of the season before the positive test had been confirmed. NASCAR officially suspended Self on April 1.
