Auburn’s opponent for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge is set

The Tigers will travel to face West Virginia in the 2023 edition of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge in January, the school announced. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports’s first reported the news Thursday morning.

Auburn has played the Mountaineer four times and is 2-2 in the series. The  Tigers have played in Morgantown before, winning there in 1984.

The game will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, with a time announced at a later date. The two teams last met in Birmingham in 2007 with West Virginia winning 88-59.

West Virginia was 16-17 overall 4-14 overall in the Big 12 last season. They did have a winning record at home, going 12-5. It was just the third time they have had a losing record in Bob Huggin’s 15-year career and the fifth time they missed the NCAA Tournament.
