Auburn football’s chance to win SEC West continues to rise, per ESPN’s FPI

The secret is out. Auburn is a decent football team.

Many speculated before the season that Auburn would struggle to reach bowl eligibility this season due to the inefficiencies of the offense, an overhauled staff, and Bo Nix.

We now head into the November slate with what feels like your typical Auburn team. 6-2 overall with a legitimate shot to win the SEC West… if they can beat Alabama at the end of the season.

And wouldn’t you know it, the Iron Bowl is at Jordan-Hare, a place Alabama hasn’t won since 2015.

ESPN’s FPI, much like the national media, is beginning to think the Tigers have a slight chance to win the SEC West. The Football Power Index gives Auburn an 11.9% chance to win the division and make the SEC Championship Game, which is up 0.9% from two weeks ago.

The FPI also thinks that Texas A&M is the final major roadblock before that potentially huge Iron Bowl matchup that’s stopping the Tigers from truly having a shot at the West crown. Auburn only has a 37.7% chance to beat the No. 13 Aggies this Saturday.

Auburn’s fate is still very much so in their own hands. It’s the repeating narrative that makes me wonder if the Tigers can once again shock the college football world in November. I’m having my doubts, but this squad still has the tools necessary to get the job done.
