Hawks guard Rajon Rondo, girlfriend sued after alleged assault and 'heated parking lot dispute'
A woman filed a lawsuit this week against Atlanta Hawks guard Rajon Rondo and his girlfriend, alleging that they “cussed out and beat” her up in a “heated parking lot dispute,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and TMZ.
The woman, Toktam Jorshari, is suing “for assault and battery, infliction of emotional distress and conspiracy,” and is seeking more than $1 million in damages, per the report. Rondo has denied the allegations.
An alleged parking lot dispute
The lawsuit stems from an incident in July at an apartment complex in the Los Angeles area where both Jorshari and Rondo’s girlfriend lived. Rondo played for the Lakers for the past two seasons.
Rondo allegedly parked his car in a handicapped space in the complex parking lot, though did not have a permit to do so. Jorshari said she parked her car in an adjacent space to unload her new table, but accidentally blocked access to Rondo’s driver’s side door in the process.
That’s when Jorshari alleged that Rondo “flew off the handle.”
She alleged that Rondo yelled, “B--ch why do you think you can park here?” at her, and at one point “with an extended arm, pushed and shoved her against her vehicle.” Johari also claims that Rondo’s girlfriend “proceeded to repeatedly physically attack her by striking her in the area of her head and upper body.
Jorshari said she did not fight back, and that Rondo gave his girlfriend the “green light” to attack her. She said she suffered injuries, some that resulted in “permanent disability,” and is in possession of security footage of the incident.
Rondo’s attorney, Mark Baute, denied the claims in a statement to the Journal-Constitution.
“The case is meritless,” Baute said. “I have seen the video tape. Mr. Rondo was polite throughout the encounter, the claimant was not wearing a mask and was unstable and rude. We look forward to defending the case and winning.”
Rondo averaged 7.1 points and five assists per game for the Lakers last season off the bench during their title run. The 34-year-old signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Hawks this past offseason, which marks his seventh NBA team during his 15-year career in the league.
