An Astronaut Helmet Promises to Be This Fall's Must-Have Face Mask
As we head into fall and temperatures begin to drop, it's vital that we continue to observe public health recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including wearing a face covering. But picking out the right mask for your lifestyle can lead to all kinds of practical considerations. For instance, which masks should we be wearing when we exercise, and what kind of masks can be worn by people with glasses that won't simply end up constantly fogging their lenses?
And then there are the aesthetic concerns. If you're going to wear something on your face, you want it to look stylish, and this newly emerging market has led to a boom in fashionable facewear.
A new type of mask designed to maximize safety and inhibit the spread of respiratory droplets during the pandemic seems to tick all of the above boxes, and then some. AIR's MicroClimate is a helmet that fully encapsulates your head, like an old-timey spaceman, and promises to protect the wearer from the outside environment, as well as keeping other people from breathing in their exhaled air.
"From Uber to airline, AIR by MicroClimate™ will keep you comfortable the whole trip," reads the official description. "AIR filters both inlet air and outlet air through HEPA filters that are in front of and behind our fans. AIR's acrylic visor enables an unobstructed view of the face. The user can also wear glasses without interference. The fabric inside and around the neck is lightweight and washable."
Because why wear a disposable face mask when you could look like one of those cats being carried around in a bubble backpack by their owner?
The MicroClimate is available to order now for $199, with shipping commencing in December. The helmet is currently only available in black, although the product website does promise that you will soon be able to order it in white... but probably not in time to complete your astronaut Halloween costume.
