Asdrúbal Cabrera hits a sacrifice fly to left field that brings home Trea Turner and makes the score 5-2 in the top of the 3rd
Tiger Woods likely is playing his final round of golf in the 2019-20 season on Sunday in the BMW Championship. He enters the day at 10 over in a share of 55th place after rounds of 73-75-72 at Olympia Fields Country Club. It's the second of three tournaments that make up the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but only the top-30 finishers in the points this week advance to the Tour Championship next week at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
It looked like Adrian Peterson was about to cut through the offensive line and cross the goal line for six on Sunday. To open the 11-on-11 phase of their training camp practice that closed out the weekend, the Washington Football Team had the first-string offense start at the 25-yard line and work their way in.
With Fantasy Football draft season here on Yahoo, our analysts are continuing to update their rankings so you'll be ready when you're on the clock. And after what he did last season, is it any surprise that Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey is the unanimous choice as the top-ranked player? With that said, however, consensus gets harder to find among our analysts after Run-CMC.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were on a collision course with Novak Djokovic on Saturday, calling for "unity, not separation" after their long-time rival superstar spearheaded a breakaway union of professional tennis players. The New York Times claimed that world number one Djokovic is expected resign as president of the ATP players' council and help form the PTPA (Professional Tennis Players Association). "We don't have all the answers right now.
After all the talk about the Lakers potentially having trouble with the Portland Trail Blazers, it took only five games for them to wrap up the plucky eighth seed. Even before Damian Lillard's second injury, which led him to leave the bubble and go home, the Lakers had clearly figured out how to make this team ineffective. It likely helped, too, that they weren't as emotionally exhausted, in a basketball sense, as the Trail Blazers. In Game 5, Portland fought.
After a few weeks of speculation about what the Orioles would do at the trade deadline in this truncated season, fans finally have an answer on one of the team's trade chips. The Orioles dealt away Tommy Milone to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, per multiple reports, one day before this year's deadline. Milone started for the O's on Opening Day in Boston, struggling mightily against the Red Sox, but settled down to pitch decently well in his next five starts.
Editor's note: From now until the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 31, we'll be recapping the done deals. The San Diego Padres stayed busy Sunday, completing a trade for Boston Red Sox slugger Mitch Moreland. MLB insider Robert Murray was the first to report the trade.
Don't worry — Yahoo Fantasy analysts Andy Behrens, Liz Loza, and Matt Harmon have you covered in the video above with a trio of last-minute draft strategies that can help you build those winning teams! First up, Matt says that with the nature of the offseason and new-look offenses not being afforded a full chance to mesh before Week 1, defenses should have favorable outlooks to start the season. As such, fantasy drafters should lock onto running backs who have safe, proven receiving roles on their team, which further cushions their floor and bolsters their ceiling.
William Byron is heading to the playoffs for the second time in his career. Byron took the lead on a green-white-checker restart and held off multiple challenges over the final two laps to get the first Cup Series win of his career at Daytona on Saturday night. Byron found himself mired deep in the field with less than 20 laps to go after he pitted for fresh tires during a caution.
Jon Rahm would have had the low round of the week at the BMW Championship if he had remembered to reach into his pocket on the fifth green. Rahm vaulted into contention Saturday at Olympia Fields, shooting a 4-under 66 that tied for the best score so far on a demanding layout. “I was holding my marker in my pocket, just went at it, and for some reason I just picked up the ball thinking I marked it already,” Rahm said.
It isn't any surprise Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow continues to win over his teammates. Not his college career…When I poked Baker Mayfield in the ribs…oh it bothered him. Because Baker was not ready to go from best college team to lousy NFL team.
Rory McIlroy has admitted in recent weeks that he has had trouble maintaining his focus on the task at hand while inside the ropes. “We're about to be parents very soon, so we're obviously super excited,” McIlroy said after the third round of the BMW Championship. The imminent birth harkened back memories of Phil Mickelson monitoring a beeper at the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst ahead of the birth of his first child, and McIlroy has likewise been keeping one eye on his pocket – and more recently, the pocket of caddie and friend Harry Diamond.
If you have control of a green-white-checkered on a speedway, most of the time the win is going to come from the front row and you have to just make sure you make the right moves and I just didn't after I took the green. I don't know what I was doing and I didn't have a push from the 21 (Matt DiBenedetto) and I was clear of the 24 (William Byron) and just didn't pull down. I don't know what I was doing.
France's fastest showman on two wheels is back making a splash at the Tour de France and once again wearing the iconic yellow jersey. Julian Alaphilippe, the rider who more than any other helped turn the 2019 edition into a thriller, again showered the Tour with his class and guile Sunday, poaching victory on Stage 2 in the picture-postcard Mediterranean city of Nice and taking the overall race lead. A final burst of acceleration timed with precision enabled Alaphilippe to shake two pursuers and hold off the main pack of riders furiously gaining ground on the finishing straight.
Lionel Messi transfer update: On the same day Messi opted not to report for mandatory medical testing on the first day of Barcelona's preseason, La Liga announced that the $833-million release clause in his contract is still valid and must be paid in full in order to secure his release from the club. Messi gave official notice to the club on Tuesday that he intends to depart and wishes to exercise a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the club for free at the end of each season. The clause was reportedly due to expire on May 30, 2020, but Messi and his representation believe it should be extended much in the same way out-of-contract players' contracts were extended upon returning from the COVID-19 shutdown.
Damion Willis, we hardly knew ye. On Sunday morning, the Cleveland Browns waived Willis, a wide receiver who joined the team on Saturday after being claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals earlier in the week. Willis failed his physical with the team.
Supremely talented athletes who do everything in their power to test the patience of their team if that talent is worth all the baggage they bring with them. Can you tell we are about to talk about running back Le'Veon Bell? This might not be directly relevant to the Steelers but given the number of fans who went out their way to defend Bell when the Steelers didn't re-sign him, these sorts of reminders are always necessary.
Carmelo Anthony is praying he will be able to stay with the Portland Trail Blazers next season after winning praise from LeBron James for his efforts since making an NBA comeback. The former New York Knicks forward's career had been in doubt following spells with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets between 2017 and 2019, after which he did not play a game for over a year. The 36-year-old saw his postseason come to an end when the team lost 131-122 to James and the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of their playoff series on Saturday, but he again caught the eye with a 27-point outing.
Danton Heinen was a solid player having a down year; he needed to be the third best player on that third line. Short on cap space, Don Sweeney sent a first-round pick and a prospect to Anaheim for them to take most of David Backes' contract and send Ondrej Kase back. That gave the Bruins a useful body at wing.
The NFL is the most conservative of the American sports leagues and the players have short careers with contracts that are largely not guaranteed. It was a big risk for Lions players to skip a day of training camp practice that could mean the difference between having a job or not having a job for several players. If you don't agree with any of these protests, I respect your difference of opinion.
