Around the B1G: Scott Frost to be sidelined for NCAA violations at Nebraska
Nebraska head coach Scott Frost will be forced to miss five working days with the football program this fall as a punishment for NCAA infractions that occurred within the football program under his watch.
The NCAA found Nebraska guilty of using an unauthorized staff member to conduct some hands-on coaching with the special teams two years ago. The NCAA and Nebraska finally came to an agreement over the punishment to be accepted by the university as a result, which has led to Frost spending five consecutive days away from the program during the 2022 season.
The good news for Nebraska is the school can cherry-pick exactly when Frost will serve his five-day suspension from all coaching activities, which means the school could have Frost be absent from the program during one of Nebraska’s bye weeks (week of Sept. 24, after playing Oklahoma and a week before facing Indiana; or week of Oct. 22, after a road game at Purdue and a week before hosting Illinois). That would seem to be the most logical strategy for the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska also has to serve one additional year on probation, pay a $10,000 fine, and remove all noncoaching staff members from practice and competition for five consecutive days.
As noted by Cornhuskers Wire, the staff member in question is Jonathan Rutledge, who is no longer affiliated with the Nebraska football program. Rutledge currently is a special teams coach for Catholic University, a Division III program.
Penn State does not play Nebraska this season. Unless they happen to meet in the Big Ten championship game…
