Arnold Palmer airport offers 2 round-trip tickets in Steelers Week promotion

Jul. 30—The Westmoreland County Airport Authority will be giving two travelers a free ticket for a southern trip as part of a Steelers Week promotion beginning Monday in Unity and Latrobe.

Visitors to the authority's Arnold Palmer Regional Airport may enter for a chance to win a round-trip ticket to any nonstop destination available from the Unity airport via Spirit Airlines, the facility's sole commercial carrier. One ticket will be awarded to each of two grand prize winners.

Runners-up will receive a Steelers-themed gift basket from two aviation firms located at the airport — L.J. Aviation and Vee Neal Aviation.

Entry forms will be available at the airport's Spirit reservation counter beginning at 9 a.m. Monday and must be returned to the Spirit desk by 3 p.m. Thursday. No purchase is necessary to enter; participants must be 18 or older.

The prizes are offered in conjunction with a Steelers Week event promoted by municipal officials in Unity and Latrobe, as a way to generate excitement and patronage of local restaurants and businesses despite the Steelers' absence from the campus of Saint Vincent College in Unity.

NFL pandemic protocols are keeping the Steelers from attending summer training camp at Saint Vincent for the second consecutive year in a row.

"We think it's a great promotion," authority Executive Director Gabe Monzo said of Steelers Week. "We certainly miss the Steelers."

Spirit currently offers flights from the Arnold Palmer airport to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and destinations in Florida, including Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale.

For grand prize winners, any cost toward continuation beyond such destinations will be the responsibility of the ticket holder. Any upgrades or baggage fees aren't included.

Flights are to be booked within six months, and travel is to be completed within one year. Booked tickets are non-refundable, and the offer becomes void if Spirit discontinues service to a selected city.

Other Steelers Week activities include a decorating contest for homes and businesses in Unity and Latrobe. One winning household each in the township and the city will receive two tickets to see the Steelers play the Detroit Lions, and the winning business will get an autographed football to display.

Registration forms are available on the city Facebook page and are due by Sunday. They may be emailed to bstraka@cityoflatrobe.com or Info@Unitytownship.org. Judging will begin Monday.

Event organizers are looking to post online fan photos from past Steelers camps and Steelers Week specials offered by local businesses. Scanned photos should be sent to Info@Unitytownship.org and business specials should be sent to bstraka@cityoflatrobe.com by Saturday.
