Argentinian soccer legend Lionel Messi set to join MLS' Inter Miami CF

The wait is over. Argentinian soccer legend Lionel Messi is set to sign with David Beckham's MLS team Inter Miami CF for next season.

According to The Athletic, Messi was deciding between his former team Barcelona and Miami before ultimately choosing to play in the United States. He immediately becomes the biggest name to ever join the MLS.

The Athletic also reported on Tuesday that the deal could include a share of the revenue generated by new subscribers to MLS Season Pass as well as a profit-sharing agreement between Messi and his sportswear sponsor adidas. It also could include the option to purchase a percentage of an MLS team upon the end of his time as a player in MLS.

Nevertheless, the superstar insists that money was not the biggest factor in his decision.

"Money, never been an issue with me. We didn't even discuss the contract with Barcelona," Messi said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo and Sport. "It wasn't about money otherwise I was going to join Saudi."

The World Cup champion's contract with French club Paris Saint-Germain F.C. expires at the end of the month after two years with the team. Austin FC will face Inter Miami on July 1.
