Area basketball roundup for Jan. 15: Blackhawks grab boys 281 Conference tournament win

Jan. 15—WOLSEY, S.D. — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket ended its five-game losing streak in timely fashion Monday.

The Blackhawks defeated Hitchcock-Tulare 64-39 in the 281 Conference tournament quarterfinals, and will advance to Tuesday's semifinals.

After a competitive first half that saw SCW take a 31-25 lead, the Blackhawks took over in the second half, outscoring the Patriots 13-7 in the third quarter and 20-7 in the fourth quarter.

A pair of seniors paced SCW to the win, with Jeff Boschee tabbing 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Cody Slykhuis scoring 18 points. Trey Moody added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Bryce Larson had a team-high seven assists and three steals.

As a team, the Blackhawks shot 21-of-46 from the field, and 10-of-13 from the free throw line.

For the Patriots, Patrick Maynard had 13 points and six rebounds, and Jackson Maynard had seven points and six rebounds.

SCW will play Wolsey-Wessington in the conference semifinals at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Wolsey.

WOLSEY, S.D. — Top-seeded Wessington Springs routed Sunshine Bible 73-19 in the 281 Conference tournament quarterfinals to improve to 7-1.

Parker Graff headed the winning effort with 17 points and five steals, while Ryder Michalek and Colby Flowers had 10 points, and Brock Krueger and Michalek each had four assists. Trey Thieman scored 15 points for Sunshine Bible.

Wessington Springs will play James Valley Christian in the conference semifinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Wolsey.
