Area basketball roundup for Feb. 2: Emilee Fox eclipses 2,000 career points as Titans top Cubs

Feb. 2—PLANKINTON, S.D. — Mount Vernon/Plankinton senior guard Emilee Fox reached a rare career milestone on Friday night, scoring her 2,000th career point in the Titans' 60-41 win over Chamberlain.

Fox, the career points leader in the history of Mount Vernon High School and the MVP cooperative, is the 36th girls basketball player in South Dakota history to eclipse 2,000 career points.

A South Dakota State women's basketball signee, the 5-foot-8 guard needed seven points entering Friday night's action. Fox scored the milestone basket shortly after grabbing an offensive rebound, driving along the baseline for a layup midway through the second quarter. She finished the night with 18 points, as MVP pulled away in the second half after trailing by one point at halftime.

Reagan Rus paced the Titans with a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double, and Kyia Schmidt fired in 17 points. MVP (11-2) has now won five consecutive games.

For Chamberlain (8-8), Kinsey Evans and Jayna Handel each scored 16 points.

Both programs are back in action on Monday, Feb. 5, when MVP visits Class B No. 1-ranked Ethan while Chamberlain hosts Class B No. 5 Lyman.

* Berkley Ziebart and Lauren Ziebart each finished with 14 points, powering Parkston to a 68-44 victory over Gregory. Keeara Oakley had 13 points, and Gracie Oakley collected 11 points and seven rebounds for the Trojans. For Gregory, Ashlyn Vosika had 11 points and Dani VanDerWerff grabbed 11 rebounds and seven points.

* Andes Central/Dakota Christian defeated Colome 64-11 in Lake Andes. Josie Brouwer notched 16 points, while Mahpiya Irving (14 points) and Halle Olson (10 points) also reached double digits. Shaleena Kingsley had three points and five rebounds for Colome.

* Kinley Spaans totalled 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Tripp-Delmont/Armour outlasted Marty 53-44 for a road win. Megan Reiner added 15 points and five assists for TDA. Jayla Bruguier's 18 points paced Marty.

* Canton outscored Canistota 55-32 after the first quarter en route to a 67-40 victory Friday. The C-Hawks had 17 points from Brynn Oakland, 13 from Shelbie Olseth and a double-double from Jenna Vande Weerd, who tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Papendick led Canistota with 15 points, draining four 3-pointers.

* Tage Ortman's 32 points helped him secure his 1,000th career point in a Hawks uniform during a 65-50 loss to Canton Friday night. Brandon Kjetland added 16 points for the Hawks. Canton got 31 points from Dagim Mesfin and 16 points from Matt Anderson.

* Ben Weber and Camdyn Stoterau combined for 37 points, and Bridgewater-Emery bested Gayville-Volin 58-45 at home. Weber had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Stoterau had 18 points, and the Huskies shot 53 percent from the field. Spencer Karstens' 20 points led G/V.

* A trio of Rustlers reached double digits, and Ethan powered by Kimball/White Lake 52-36. Drake Gustafson led Ethan with 14 points, and Taite Klumb and Jack Bartscher added 11 points. For KWL, Blake Leiferman notched 14 points and Parker Sinclair had 10 points.

* Chamberlain got past Mount Vernon/Plankinton 58-49 in Plankinton. For the Titans, Zach Baker scored 15 points, Dylan Rihanek had 13 points and Tyce Feistner notched 12 points. No Chamberlain stats were reported.
