From the Archives: February 10 in the Pioneer

Feb. 10—February 10, 2014 — Bemidji High School's gymnastics team is having a stellar season, while dealing with the loss of one teammate's mother. Natascha Smrekar, who passed away from cancer earlier this year, was an integral supporter of the team, who attended her memorial. Now they're performing their best in her honor.

February 10, 1999 — Teams of dogs raced through the snow during the 26th annual Paul Bunyan Sled Dog Challenge, which saw over 60 teams participate. Spectators were able to watch as the canines bounded along the trails, led on by their mushers and excited by the competition.

February 10, 1974 — The fraternity Theta Tau Epsilon is the winner of this year's Paul Bunyan Winter Carnival Snow Sculpture Contest, held at Bemidji State College. The students in the fraternity crafted a large, snowy Paul Bunyan out fishing with several friends outside of Birch and Hickory Residential Halls.

February 10, 1924 — A robbery took place near the Great Northern Depot in Bemidji, with a young man threatened at gunpoint to hand over his valuables. The victim was relieved of $180, with the robber quickly absconding. Police are reportedly investigating the incident and searching for the perpetrator.
