APD IDs child killed in road rage shooting near Isotopes Park
Sep. 8—Detectives released the name of an 11-year-old who was fatally shot Wednesday night as he was leaving an Isotopes baseball game with his family.
Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said Froyland Villegas was shot in the head and his aunt was critically injured when someone in a black SUV fired 17 shots at their truck near Avenida Cesar Chavez and University SE.
Villegas' mother and infant brother were in the backseat and were not struck by gunfire.
Gallegos said Villegas' aunt, who is in her 20s, remains in critical condition at the hospital and her condition is "considered to be unstable."
Police are looking for those responsible and on Thursday released a picture of the suspect vehicle, a newer model black Dodge Durango.
