Anthony Edwards tied Christian Laettner for most 20-point games in team history

Anthony Edwards on Tuesday produced 22 points to help the Minnesota Timberwolves post a 119-100 victory on the road over the Detroit Pistons, their second straight win.

Edwards finished the night by adding two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 34 minutes of work. He converted on 7-of-16 shot attempts from the field, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range, and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.

The 22-point performance by Edwards marked his 33rd of the season, which leads all rookie players; no other player has more than 17. His 33 games with at least 20 points tied Christian Laettner for the most by a rookie in Timberwolves history.

Edwards, who was nominated for Western Conference Player of the Week, continued a strong late-season surge with his latest effort. Since the All-Star break, Edwards is averaging 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 33 games played.

The No. 1 overall pick is making a strong case for Rookie of the Year, something Karl-Anthony Towns believes he should win. Whether or not he wins remains to be seen, but it is clear the Timberwolves got a player with elite potential in Edwards.
