‘Who is he?’: Anthony Edwards has no idea who Alex Rodriguez is

On Saturday, former three-time MLB MVP Alex Rodriguez, and business partner Marc Lore, signed a letter of intent to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves for a reported $1.5 billion from current owner Glenn Taylor.

Rodriguez and Lore now reportedly have 30 days to negotiate and complete the sale from Taylor, which also includes the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. Upon agreement between the two sides, the deal would then need to be approved by the NBA.

The news of the sale has brought positive feedback from experts around the league, as Rodriguez and Lore would help infuse the team with star power and financial resources. The two nearly bought the New York Mets last year, but have now honed in on the Timberwolves.

While the pending sale seems to be widely praised, No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards isn’t quite up to speed with his new owner.

Following a 127-97 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, Edwards was asked his thoughts about the potential change in ownership and the 19-year-old wasn’t exactly sure who Rodriguez is or what he has previously accomplished on the diamond.

“Who is he?” Anthony asked. “I don’t know who that is. I know he’s fixing to be the owner, but I don’t know nothing about baseball.”

Edwards grew up playing football until he switched over to basketball around the age of 10. He apparently never quite got into baseball after not recognizing Rodriguez’s name, which seems to be a bit shocking considering A-Rod played for the New York Yankees for several years.

In any case, Edwards may want to introduce himself to Rodriguez when he gets the opportunity. He and Rodriguez figure to both be around the Timberwolves for several years as the organization works to turn things around.
