"They've got a lot of doubt down there, we've got a lot of belief," cameras caught Kerr telling the Warriors before the second quarter.

After the Lakers rallied to win 103-100 on LeBron James' miracle 34-foot 3-pointer, star forward Anthony Davis could only offer three laughing emojis in response to Kerr's speech.

Davis struggled for most of the night as Draymond Green put the clamps on him, but did score 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to help the defending champions claim the No. 7 seed in the NBA playoffs and a first-round date with the Phoenix Suns.

There was, of course, nothing wrong with what Kerr said. He was merely trying to keep his team motivated against a championship-caliber team that he knew would go on a run at some point. Belief is a vital ingredient to any upset and Kerr wanted to make sure all of his guys, not just Steph Curry and Green, believed they could knock off the Lakers.

A sloppy second half doomed the Warriors' upset chances, and now they must face the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday at Chase Center, with the winner claiming the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference and the loser heading home.
