Anna Probst helps lead T-Town girls to consolation title at Highland

Jan. 22—HIGHLAND — Anna Probst's performance on Saturday was needed.

A sophomore guard on the Teutopolis girls basketball team, Probst dropped a game-high 21 points in the Lady Shoes' 59-46 win over Bethalto (Civic Memorial) in the consolation championship game of the 37th Annual Apex Network Physical Therapy Highland Girls Basketball Tournament.

Probst scored 15 of her 21 points in the first half. Her efforts helped T-Town take a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and 24-21 at the break.

The Eagles opened the game with the first six points after three-point makes by Avari Combes and Marlee Durbin.

Probst then got the Lady Shoes on the board with a midrange jumper that made it 6-2 with 5:40 left.

Chloe Probst then hit a layup and Kelsey Niemerg converted a layup, while drawing the foul, after Mollie Ruholl forced a turnover that tied the game with 4:37 remaining. Niemerg missed her foul shot, though, leaving the score as is.

Anna Probst then hit a three-pointer to put T-Town ahead, 9-7.

Civic Memorial tied the game after a pair of free throws.

Ruholl then hit a three-pointer to put the Lady Shoes ahead once again, 12-9, with 2:04 left. Durbin then hit a layup for the Eagles that cut the lead to one and Anna Probst ended the frame with a layup just before the buzzer sounded to make the score.

Civic Memorial then opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 19-14 lead. Isabelle Edwards and Meredith Brueckner hit layups. Reegan Twente hit a floater and Brueckner hit her second layup.

T-Town responded with a 10-0 run that made it a five-point game. Anna Probst hit a layup and then knocked down a pair of three-pointers and Malea Helmink converted a layup after rebounding a missed Chloe Probst shot.

The Eagles then closed the half with a pair of free throws.

They opened the second half with an Avery Huddleston layup that made it 24-23.

Chloe Probst then hit a layup and Anna Probst dialed up a three-pointer that made it 29-23. Kelsey Niemerg then rebounded a missed shot and converted a layup to make it 31-25 with 5:38 left.

Chloe Probst followed with a pair of free throws that made it an eight-point game.

Combes answered for Civic Memorial with a layup to make it a six-point contest with 4:39 left.

The Lady Shoes then went on a 9-0 run to push the lead to 15 points. Chloe Probst made a layup. Helmink hit one. Ruholl made a three-pointer and Chloe Probst made another layup.

Chloe Probst added 15 points to the win. Niemerg had 11.

Ruholl had eight and Helmink had four.
