No, seriously.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the arrival of the uniquely 2020 football artifact on Monday. It will be displayed in the Pro Football Today Gallery complete with a game-worn Chiefs hat.
Here's the copy that accompanied the Hall's announcement:
"New to arrive in Canton and to be put on display in the Hall’s Pro Football Today Gallery are the game-worn hat and face shield of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. He wore both of these items much of the 2020 season as a part of the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols.
"In Week 9 (Nov. 8, 2020), the Chiefs defeated the Carolina Panthers 33-31. The victory was the 230th of Reid’s career. He surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Curly Lambeau for most wins in NFL history, moving into fifth place."
Why, exactly?
It's unclear what motivated the display. Is the peg to commemorate Reid moving past Curly Lambeau on the all-time wins list? Or is it just an excuse to celebrate the weirdness that was Reid's perpetually fogged-up face shield from the 2020 season?
We're banking on the latter. If the Hall really wants to lean in here, it'll add a Hawaiian shirt and a preserved cheeseburger to the mix.
One thing we can all agree on: Let's hope this is the last we'll see of Reid's face shield and that he won't need to buy a replacement for 2021.
