Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy is the top goaltender from the 2018-19 NHL season.
A rock for the Lightning in their historic 128-point campaign, Vasilevskiy claimed his first Vezina Trophy at the NHL Awards ceremony in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, beating out Ben Bishop of the Dallas Stars and the New York Islanders’ Robin Lehner.
Vasilevskiy paced the NHL in wins, while his .925 save rate and six shutouts ranked near the top of the league as well.
His raw save-to-save numbers did not compare to that of both Bishop and Lehner, but Vasilevskiy did take on a more significant workload compared to his counterparts in Dallas and Long Island, and he certainly enjoyed more success with 39 wins from 53 starts.
Vasilevskiy was a finalist last season when Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators took home the honour.
