'American Rust,' filmed locally, gets canceled by Showtime
It's one and done for the Showtime series "American Rust."
The grim drama, starring Jeff Daniels as a Fayette County police chief, has been canceled after one season, Showtime confirmed Tuesday.
"American Rust" had used the former Ambridge police station for multiple scenes.
Fake police cars with the series' fictional town name "Buell" were a common sight in Ambridge during 2021 filming.
“We can confirm that ‘American Rust’ will not be moving forward with a second season,” Showtime said in a statement published by Variety. “We would like to thank our partners at Boat Rocker, our talented showrunner Dan Futterman and the rest of the wonderful writers, and our amazing cast led by Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.”
Debuting last September, "American Rust" got poor reviews for the dreariness of its plot, and never sparked the watercooler talk of HBO's earlier and comparable "Mare of Easttown."
Daniels starred as police chief Del Harris, whose investigation of a murder forces him to decide what lengths he will go take to protect the son of the woman he loves.
