American Heritage golf wins 19th region title. Columbus, Doral win, and Gibbons diver sets mark

The American Heritage boys’ golf team won the Region 4-2A Championship at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club.

That makes 19 region golf titles overall for the Patriots’ boys’ program, including 11 consecutive for Coach Brandt Moser.

What a close battle this time. Every stroke counted.

North Broward Prep and Archbishop McCarthy made things very tough for the Patriots as three strokes separated first from third and seven strokes between first and fourth.

Lorenzo Rodriquez of Belen Jesuit won the individual region title with 67, reaching state, which is this week at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Honey-In-The-Hills.

The Top 3 teams advance to state as well as the Top 3 individuals not on those teams.

More region golf

The Columbus boys’ golf team qualified for state in Class 3A.

The Explorers edged Jupiter at the Boca Golf & Racquet Club to win the Region 4-3A title in Boca Raton. They were led by Hans Risvaer, who shot 3-under (69) to win the individual title.

In the girls’ division, Doral Academy won the team championship.

Senior captain Gabriella Gomez led the winning Firebirds by tying for second at 2-over 74. Sophomore teammate Mia Caraballo (5-over 77) also helped bring that regional championship back to Miami.

Region 4-1A at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne (par 72): Led by Alexander Weinberg and Ryan Altshul, the Pine Crest boys’ golf team won the team title. On the girls’ side, Ariana Silva of Sagemont shot 69 to win the individual title en route to helping the Lions win the team championship. Teammate Abby Lee tied for fourth at 74.

Region swimming

The Gulliver Prep girls’ swim team won the Region 4-2A Championship at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart.

The Raiders won all three relays, dropping an impressive amount of time in each. Every student-athlete swam a personal best or season best time, which is a difficult feat.

Sophomore Gio Musiello led Gulliver Prep with four 1st place finishes (200 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 IM, 100 backstroke). The confident Raiders advance to state, which is Saturday, Nov. 12 also at Sailfish Splash Waterpark.

Cardinal Gibbons freshman Juliet Radich broke the FHSAA 1-meter springboard record in the girls’ division. She totaled a record-setting 544.25 points, winning the event and advancing to state.

Pompano Beach won the boys’ region team title.

Gulliver Prep’s boys placed eighth. Each swimmer swam personal best times, and the relay times dropped, too. Sophomore Juanfra Gudino trimmed 1.5 seconds in the 100 butterfly to finish sixth at 52.87. Gudino followed-up with a third place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
