Fox Releases ‘Our Kind of People’ Preview (TV News Roundup)
Fox released a trailer for “Our Kind of People,” premiering on Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
Inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s critically acclaimed book, “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” the series takes place in the aspirational Martha’s Vineyard community Oak Bluffs, where the rich and powerful Black elite have come to play for over 50 years.

Starring Yaya DaCosta, Morris Chestnut, Joe Morton, Nadine Ellis, Lance Gross, Rhyon Nicole Brown, Kyle Bary and Alana Bright, the show follows a strong-willed single mom as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and find success in her revolutionary haircare line.
“Our Kind of People” is executive produced by writer Karin Gist, Lee Daniels, Ben Silverman for Propagate, Claire Brown for The Gist Of It Productions, Marc Velez for Lee Daniels Entertainment, Pam Williams and Montrel McKay. Tasha Smith directed the series premiere.

Season 2 of “Well Done With Sebastian Maniscalco” will premiere on Nov. 16 on Discovery Plus. The six-episode season will showcase the comedian’s signature social observations and witty commentary while diving into his culinary interests. In the new season, Maniscalco will revisit his former life as a bartender to create a signature cocktail for Whitney Cummings, explore why kids are picky eaters with Nick and Vanessa Lachey, discover the universality of noodles with Bobby Lee and discuss the food habits of dogs with Cesar Milan.
Netflix announced that “Inside Job” will premiere on Oct. 22. The adult animated comedy series follows the shadow government and its dysfunctional team who works to commit the world’s conspiracies. The 10-episode show focuses on tech genius Reagan Ridley, who believes she can make the world a better place, even in a workplace filled with reptilian shapeshifters and psychic mushrooms. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, Clark Duke, Andrew Daly, Bobby Lee, John DiMaggio, Tisha Campbell and Brett Gelman, “Inside Job” is created by Shion Takeuchi, who executive produces with Alex Hirsch.
Discovery Plus announced that “Curse of the Chippendales” will premiere on Sept. 24. The four-part docuseries tells the story of greed, jealousy and murder-for-hire behind the iconic male dance troupe. The series features never-before-seen archival footage and photos, along with interviews with former dancers, the women who worshipped them and the law enforcement officers who worked the case for years. Created by Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn of Lightbox, the series is directed by Jesse Vile, produced by Suzette Styler and executive produced by the Chinns and Suzanne Lavery, with Jeanie Vink serving as vice president executive producer for Discovery Plus. Interviews include Michael Rapp, Read Scot, Dan Peterson and other original line-up members; the club’s lawyer Bruce Nahin; Nick DeNoia’s friend and associate producer Candace Mayeron; creative director Eric Gilbert; and retired FBI Special Agent Scott Garriola, along with other key investigators.
Discovery Plus announced that “Last Chance Transplant” will premiere on Sept. 22. From executive producer Robin Roberts, the emotional reality series will give viewers an inside look into the race against the clock to transplant and save human lives. The show takes place at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and follows six patients, two in each episode, including Krystal Powers, Carlos Calloway, Reverend KenYatta Braxton, Jeff Fuqua, Rob Morris and Joe Eitl. “Last Chance Transplant” is produced for Discovery Plus by 44 Blue Productions, LLC, a Red Arrow Studios Company, and Rock’n Robin Productions. HGTV announced premiere dates for its fall 2021 programming slate of new series, which includes Martha Stewart’s tabletop and theme event competition show “Table Wars,” airing on Nov. 12 at 10 p.m, and Ken and Anita Corsini’s renovation series “Flipping Showdown,” debuting on Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. More real estate-centered series coming this fall include “The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project,” which follows Nake Berkus and Jeremiah Brent as they help families get fresh starts and premieres on Oct. 5 at 9 p.m., and Luke Caldwell and Clint Robertson’s “Outgrown,” the renovation show for growing families in Idaho, debuting on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Premiering now on Mondays at 9 p.m. is “Cheap Old Houses,” which follows Ethan and Elizabeth Finkelstein as they tour low-priced older houses across America, and airing on Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. is “Unfinished Business,” in which Tom Reber will push families across the finish line of their long abandoned renovation projects. “Call the Closer,” which features realtor Lauren Risley as she helps clients find the right house, premieres on Nov. 10 at 9 p.m., and airing on Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. is “Houses with History (working title),” which follows Mike Lemieux, Rich Soares and Jen Macdonald as they team up to save centuries-old properties in Plymouth, Mass. “Curb Appeal Xtreme,” a spinoff of “Curb Appeal,” featuring John Gidding, Jamie Durie and Rachel Taylor, will premiere on Sept. 8 at 8 p.m., and “Cash in the Attic” will make a comeback with collector Courtney Tezeno, debuting on Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. “Renovation Island” stars Bryan and Sarah Baeumler are also teaming up for two new series, “Renovation, Inc: The Lake House,” premiering on Aug. 29 at 9 p.m., and “Renovation, Inc: Home Sweet Home,” which airs on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.

Launching on Oct. 18 is “Tough Love with Hillary Farr,” which follows the titular interior designer as she helps families renovate their homes, and premiering on Sept. 18 is “Reno My Rental,” which stars Carmeon Hamilton as she helps renters make their place feel like home. On Aug. 29, Bryan and Sarah Baeumler of “Renovation Island” are back with a brand new show, “Renovation, Inc: The Beginning,” which will showcase how the couple began their booming home reno business in Ontario, Canada, and follow them as they build their first family home in just six months.

Netflix released a trailer for “Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo,” a new series premiering on Aug. 31. Following up on 2019’s “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo,” this new series will explore how Kondo’s method can affect businesses, relationships and communities. Over three episodes, the bestselling author and organization consultant will take viewers through her own home to meet her family and get a glimpse into how she enacts her signature catchphrase, “sparking joy,” in her daily life. Jane Lipsitz, Dan Cutforth, Dan Volpe, Nan Strait, Grace Lee-Toumanidis and showrunner Rachelle Mendez executive produce on behalf of Alfred Street while Kondo and Takumi Kawahara executive produce on behalf of KonMari Media Inc. AMC Plus unveiled first look photos from “Ragdoll,” a new thriller series premiering this fall and starring Lucy Hale. The six-episode series is based on Daniel Cole’s novel of the same name, in which six people are murdered by a serial killer who tears apart their bodies and sews them back into one. Also starring Henry Lloyd Hughes and Thalissa Teixeira, “Ragdoll” is executive produced and commissioned by AMC and UKTV’s Alibi, as well as Sid Gentle Films Ltd. Freddy Syborn serves as lead writer and executive producer. Niall MacCormick and Toby MacDonald direct. See first look images below.
PROGRAMMING
HGTV announced a slew of new series set for this fall, including “Holmes Family Rescue,” which follows Mike Holmes and his kids as they rescue clients living through botched construction jobs, due in December. Also premiering in December is “Fix My Flip,” which stars real estate expert Paige Turner as she helps overwhelmed flippers by taking over their project. In January 2022, Egypt Sherrod and her husband Mike Jackson will star in “Married to Real Estate (wt),” and in December, “I Bought A Dump…Now What?” will follow homeowners who purchased dilapidated properties in hopes of renovating them into their forever home.

Macro has partnered with Beats to help HBCU students achieve their Hollywood dreams with an opportunity to pitch their passion film projects to top industry executives. The winners will attend the Beats Black Creators Summit and the 2022 Macro Lodge at Sundance Film Festival.
