Players from around the league expressed disgust for what they deemed a short-sighted and out-of-touch stance, including Brees' teammates Michael Thomas and Malcolm Jenkins.
Bears players responded too, including Allen Robinson, who offered this opinion on Twitter:
This isn't about the people who fight for the freedom of our country, and it never has been! We love and cherish our troops! It's about the equality amoungst our communities— Allen Robinson II (@AllenRobinson) June 3, 2020
Robinson wasn't the only Bear (both past and present) who was offended by Brees.
If you're still talking about players "disrespecting the flag" by kneeling during the national anthem clearly you're not ready for these conversations. Call a time out and come back later.— Julius Peppers (@juliuspeppers_) June 3, 2020
We'll update this post as more Bears players react.
