CBS tabs Allen Bestwick to do play-by-play for Tony Stewart's SRX racing series

Longtime racing announcer Allen Bestwick is going to be the voice of SRX.

CBS announced Wednesday that Bestwick would be the play-by-play announcer for the six-week racing series created by Tony Stewart and Ray Evernham.

The popular former ESPN and NBC announcer will be joined on the telecast by other familiar faces and voices. Brad Daugherty — a co-owner of Cup Series team JTG-Daugherty Racing — will be an analyst, former Fox pit reporter Matt Yocum will be the pit reporter and former ESPN and TNT announcer Lindsay Czarniak will be the host of the telecasts.

The telecasts will feature current and former drivers as analysts. Danica Patrick, Dario Franchitti and James Hinchcliffe will each be an analyst for two races.

SRX begins June 12

Superstar Racing Experience is a made-for-television racing series that starts on June 12 and will be broadcast on CBS. The series will race on six consecutive Saturday nights throughout the summer at short tracks across the country. The series will race at Stafford Motor Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, Eldora Speedway, Lucas Oil Raceway, Slinger Speedway and Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

Stewart, the owner of Eldora, will be one of the competitors in the series. He’s going to compete against drivers like Tony Kanaan, Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte and Michael Waltrip. While SRX initially teased the possibility of current major auto racing stars competing in the series, the driver lineup is mostly made up of retired drivers or drivers like Helio Castroneves and Marco Andretti running part-time schedules in IndyCar.

Evernham, the former Cup Series car owner and crew chief, has been building and designing the cars for the series.
