Alex Rodriguez calls himself a tool while playing a prank on a fan

What does Alex Rodriguez think of Alex Rodriguez? No, this isn’t some weird question about the psyche of one of the best baseball players of all time. It’s actually something we can answer.

It requires some setup, though. Rodriguez released a video on Twitter of him playing a prank on a fan. The woman didn’t initially know she was talking to Rodriguez, but said Rodriguez looked like the person Jennifer Lopez was dating.

Rodriguez decided to play along with that.

Rodriguez asks the fan to pull up a picture so he can see if there is a resemblance. Upon seeing the picture of himself, Rodriguez says, “First of all, I would never wear pajamas that goofy. What a tool.”

The fan then pulls up a picture of Rodriguez and Lopez at a red carpet event. Rodriguez then says, “Oh, that guy is handsome.” That’s when the fan begins to realize what’s going on.

Rodriguez lets the prank go just a bit longer before saying, “Nice to meet you.” The fan then utters an expletive, because what else are you going to do when Alex Rodriguez plays a prank on you?

It’s yet another example of Rodriguez’s stunning turnaround over the past couple years. He went from one of the most hated players to a likable media personality. Rodriguez has spoken about the impact his 2014 suspension had on that transformation.

As for the “tool” comment, Rodriguez may have been regurgitating some of the stuff he heard about himself during his playing days. We can only imagine what Rodriguez would have said if the fan pulled up his notorious mirror picture.
