Throughout his 18-year NHL career, Alex Ovechkin has made quite the name for himself. The Washington Capitals had a feeling they found someone special when they drafted Ovi with the first overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. What he has been able to accomplish since has simply exceeded expectations.

Ovechkin’s dominance is something he established as just a young 19-year-old coming all the way from Moscow, Russia. Fast forward to the age of 37, being one of the oldest active players in the NHL, Ovechkin has shown no signs of slowing down. His statistics don’t lie and certainly neither do the record books.

The Great Eight has won everything from the Hart Memorial Trophy to the Stanley Cup to 13 All-Star selections and a list of records to go along with it all that seems to be never-ending. Here’s a look at all the incredible achievements unlocked and records set by the one they call the Great Eight:

Ovechkin’s list of awards brought home has piled up in his career. He is the first player in NHL history to win the Art Ross, Maurice Richard, Lester B. Pearson, and Hart Memorial trophies all in a single season (2007-08).

Alex Ovechkin's goals records

Ovechkin has cemented himself as one of the greatest goal-scorers ever, passing Gordie Howe for second on the all-time list earlier in the 2022-23 season. Ovechkin is just one of two players (Steve Yzerman) to break into the top 10 by scoring all his goals with just one team.
