Alex Ovechkin turned 34 years old on Tuesday and his wife, Nastya, wanted to make sure it was special.

With the 2019-20 season just over two weeks away, the NHL’s top active all-time goal scorer was on the ice with his teammates on the Washington Capitals. So, Nastya and Sergei — the couple’s son that turned one year old in August — decided to go to him.

With balloons in tow and an “OVI JR” jersey on, Sergei ventured to MedStar Capitals Iceplex with his mother to surprise Alex.

Based on the reaction of Washington’s captain, he was quite happy to see the two. And can you blame him? Just look at the little guy. He’s adorable!

On top of their meetings at the glass and near the tunnel, Sergei also caught up with a number of his old man’s co-workers throughout the day, according to Taryn Bray of WashingtonCaps.com.

And once practice was over, he joined his father in the locker room to ensure preparations for the upcoming season were under control.

After winning the Stanley Cup in 2018 — just a couple months before Alex and Nastya welcomed Sergei into the world — the Capitals were bounced from the first round of the postseason by the Carolina Hurricanes last spring.
