Alejandro Mata is sixth Jackson State football player joining Deion Sanders in Colorado

Jackson State football has lost another player to the transfer portal and to Colorado.

Kicker Alejandro Mata is following former Tigers coach Deion Sanders to Colorado.

"Thankful to be committed and signed to the University of Colorado," Marta wrote on Twitter.

Five other Jackson State players are transferring to Colorado: quarterback Shedeur Sanders, defensive back Shilo Sanders, two-way player Travis Hunter, safety Cam'Ron Simon-Craig and offensive lineman Tyler Brown.

Mata was almost automatic on extra points, going 50-of-51, and 12-of-13 on field goal attempts with a long of 38 yards.

Mata was a third-team FCS Freshman All-American and second-team All-SWAC selection. He led JSU in scoring on points with 86.

"I think he is the best kicker in the SWAC," Deion Sanders said during the season. "I think he is the best kicker in the country."

Mata helped JSU win a physical game against Tennessee State in the Southern Heritage Classic on Sept. 10. He kicked field goals from 27, 28 and 30 yards to give JSU a 9-3 lead before Shedeur Sanders hit Willie Gaines on a 27-yard touchdown with 1:01 to play in the game. Mata was voted the Most Valuable Player.
