Aldon Smith's sad spiral continues, as he lands in jail yet again

Aldon Smith is back in jail.

Smith, once a first-round pick and All-Pro pass rusher for the San Francisco 49ers, was booked Friday for violating a condition of his electronic monitoring while on bail, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Chronicle reported Smith is being held in San Francisco County Jail on Sunday on $500,000 bond.

Smith’s NFL career is practically over after the past couple months. On March 3, Smith was accused of a domestic violence incident in which he “threw her around the room, bit her on the wrist and climbed out the window.” He was cut by the Raiders shortly after. Smith turned himself in on charges of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism (less than $400). Then a few weeks later, Smith was arrested for contacting the victim of that incident.

And now Smith is back in jail for violation a condition of his electronic monitoring.

By now, football should be the furthest thing from Smith’s mind. He is just 28 years old, with a long list of brushes with the law which led to NFL suspensions. He is young enough to turn his life around but he’s on a troubling path, especially over the past month.
