Alco shuts out University; Southern beats Fort Hill; Hampshire sweeps doubleheader

Mar. 26—MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After striking out 20 against Keyser the previous game, Abi Britton struck out 16 against University on Monday in a 4-0 shutout win.

The Campers (3-0) opened the game with a three run top of the first inning.

Riley Gallager hit a leadoff double and scored on a RBI double by Mackenzie Monahan.

Batting third in the lineup, Britton hit a two-run home run to left.

Allegany added a run in the sixth on a fielding error at third base.

University's only hit came on a leadoff triple in the second inning by Olivia Masoner.

Britton threw a complete game shutout, allowing one hit.

Monahan led the Campers with two hits and a RBI.

The Hawks starter Sophia Lehosit allowed three hits and three runs without recording an out.

Maddie Campbell pitched seven innings, allowing one hits, an unearned run and three walks with 12 strikeouts.

The Campers host Northern on Monday at Lavale Lions Field at 4:30 p.m.

Southern 4, Fort Hill 3

CUMBERLAND — The sixth inning was the difference in Southern's win over Fort Hill on Monday.

The Rams scored three runs in the sixth compared to two by the Sentinels.

An error and a single by Ryelee Bernard put two runners on in the top of the sixth.

A fielding error at second base allowed Miranda Martin to reach first and take second.

Bernard and Braelynn Zimmerman scored on the same error, giving Southern a 3-1 lead.

Martin took third on a passed ball and stole home to go up 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Paetyn Davis doubled to right, driving in a run to cut the Sentinels deficit to 4-2.

Brynnan Wigger and Tatum Bishop hit back-to-back singles, Bishop's drove in a run to make it a one run game.

Bailey Schmidt earned the win in four innings, allowing one hit, one run and one walk with a pair of strikeouts.

Adeline Wilson went two innings, allowing five hits, two runs and a walk with three strikeouts.

Four Rams each recorded a hit.

MaeLeigh Plummer went the distance for Fort Hill, allowing four hits, four runs (one earned) and three walks with five strikeouts.

Wigger led the Sentinels with two hits.

Both teams play on the road on Wednesday.

Southern heads to Tucker County at 5 p.m. while Fort Hill faces Keyser at 6 p.m.

Hampshire sweeps doubleheader

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Hampshire swept a doubleheader over Martinsburg on Monday, taking game one 16-8 in six innings and game two 10-4.

In game one, the Trojans (2-2) trailed 4-2 after three innings, but scored six runs in the fourth and seven in the sixth to pull away.

Seven Trojans recorded multiple hits led by Izzy Blomquist, Molly McVicker and Natalie Sions each with three.

Ava Call had four RBI, Sions and Dakota Strawderman each added three and Blomquist and Hailee Jenkins each had two.

Strawderman pitched six innings, allowing eight hits, eight runs (four earned) and seven walks with four strikeouts.

In game two, the Trojans scored five in the second inning and never looked back.

McVicker went the distance, allowing five hits, four runs and four walks with five strikeouts.

Jenkins, Call, Blomquist and Strawderman each had two hits.

Jenkins drove in four RBI and Blomquist drove in two.

Hampshire hosts Frankfort on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
