New Albany's Bailey, Shannon's Clifton voted Athletes of the Week
Oct. 26—New Albany's Adeline Bailey and Shannon's Dagarrious Clifton have been voted Daily Journal Athletes of the Week.
Bailey, an eighth grader, led the Bulldogs to victory at the Class 4A golf championships earlier this week. She shot a two-day total of 145 to earn medalist honors, finishing 13 strokes ahead of her closest competitor.
Bailey won the Female Athlete of the Week Twitter poll with 62.4% of the vote. The other nominees were Ingomar volleyball player Macie Phifer and Tupelo cross country runner Sophie Santucci.
Clifton, a sophomore wide receiver for Shannon's football team, had a big night in last week's 51-27 win over Itawamba AHS. He caught four passes for 157 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Red Raiders improved to 5-4 on the season.
Clifton won the Male Athlete of the Week poll with 69.8% of the vote. The other candidates were Houston running back Jalen Washington and Hatley running back Cayson Williams.
