Alabama’s Mekhi Brown, the player who had to be restrained from going after an Alabama staffer during the National Championship Game, is transferring.

Brown has enrolled at Tennessee State, according to the Tennesseean. His transfer was in the works for weeks before the title game.

As a result of the incident in the national championship game against Georgia, Brown will have certain stipulations he must meet before being allowed to join the football team at TSU.

If he meets those stipulations Brown will be allowed to participate in spring practice with the Tigers and be eligible to play this fall with two years of eligibility remaining.

Brown would be immediately eligible because Tennessee State is an FCS school. Players who transfer from an FBS school to an FCS school do not have to sit out a season.

Brown drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after throwing a punch at Georgia’s Wyatt Payne. As he was angry on the sidelines, Brown then went after Alabama staffer Kerry Stevenson and had to be restrained by teammates.

“I really felt like a jerk,” Brown told Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel after the game. “That’s not how I am. I wanted to win, that’s what it was. I did something stupid. I could have cost us the game.”

Brown ended up coming back into the game and making a key special teams tackle on a kickoff return.
