Alabama Softball overcomes Montana Fouts injury to defeat Arkansas in SEC Tournament
The No. 4-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Arkansas 3-2 in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday night.
Alabama’s star pitcher Montana Fouts pitched 6 and one-thirds inning before suffering an apparent knee injury. Fouts came down awkardly after striking out a Razorbacks batter in the sixth inning. Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy pulled Fouts from the game and inserted redshirt-sophomore Alex Salter into the game. Fouts’ status for the rest of the season is unknown at this time.
After striking out in three of her first five at bats, junior Bailey Dowling delivered in the top of the ninth inning with a two-run double. That put the Tide ahead 3-1 heading into the bottom half of the ninth inning.
In the home half of the ninth, the Razorbacks mustered across one run before a groundout to freshman Kenleigh Cahalan ended any hope for Arkansas.
Alabama will advance to the semifinals. The Tide are scheduled to face the winner of the Florida and Tennessee game. The winner of that contest will have to around and face the Tide at 6:30 p.m. EDT / 5:30 p.m. CDT.
