Alabama Morning Drive: Projecting Alabama’s 2022 first round NFL draft picks

·2 min read

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another Thursday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. Each weekday morning we try to bring you the latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide to make sure you start your day off right.

With the first round of the 2022 NFL draft tonight, we will keep most of our focus there, and which former members of the Crimson Tide could hear their names called. After all, nobody has sent more players to the NFL over the last decade than Nick Saban.

So sit back and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and take in today’s version of Alabama Morning Drive.

First…Evan Neal’s projection…

Just a couple of months ago Evan Neal was considered the heavy favorite to be the No. 1 draft pick in 2022. While the potential is still there for the Jaguars to select Neal at No. 1, it doesn’t seem very likely.

I would be shocked if Neal is not selected within the top 10 picks, but the NFL draft is always full of surprises.

Stacey’s Projection: No. 3 overall to the Houston Texans

Next…Jameson Williams’ projection…

Before suffering a knee injury in the national championship game, Jameson Willams was viewed by many as the top wide receiver prospect heading into the 2022 NFL draft.

Even with the injury, it’s very likely Williams doesn’t make it out of the teens Thursday night. Some believe Williams could go as high as No. 10 overall to the New York Jets, but I believe the Jets are most likely to go in a different direction.

Stacey’s Projection: No. 15 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles

Finally…Christian Harris’ projection…

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

There is a slim possibility that former Alabama linebacker Christian Harris can sneak his way into the first round, but I don’t find it very likely. There are only about three teams that I think would consider taking Harris in the first round: the Dallas Cowboys at No. 24, the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 30 or the Detroit Lions at No. 32. Trying to guess what these NFL teams are going to do is simply that, guessing.

Personally, I think Harris is most likely a second-round selection.

Stacey’s Projection: No. 51 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles

You can catch the first round of the 2022 NFL draft tonight on ESPN, NFL Network or ABC beginning at 7 p.m. CT.

That is going to wrap up our Thursday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone has a safe and happy day.
