Alabama LB Shaun Dion Hamilton out for the year
Alabama will be without one of its best defensive players for the rest of the season.
After the Tide’s 24-10 win over LSU on Saturday night, coach Nick Saban indicated senior linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton suffered what appeared to be a season-ending knee injury. Saban confirmed the news Monday.
“Shaun Dion had a successful surgery. This is something he’ll be able to respond to in a few months and hopefully be able to come back and have an opportunity to do some things to extend his career,” Saban said.
Al.com reported that Hamilton suffered a fractured right kneecap.
Hamilton returned to the field for the Tide this season after tearing his ACL (in the same knee) during the SEC title game last December. To this point in the season, Hamilton was second on the team with 40 tackles and third in tackles for loss with 5.5.
Alabama also lost linebacker Mack Wilson in the win over the Tigers. Wilson, a sophomore, tweeted about having surgery on Sunday.
“Mack had foot injury that will probably put him out four to six weeks,” Saban said. “We’ll just have to play it by ear and see how fast it heals.”
Earlier this season, Alabama ruled linebackers Terrell Lewis and Christian Miller out for the season, but Saban said during the week that there is a chance could return to the field at some point this season.
Now 9-0, the second-ranked Crimson Tide will face No. 16 Mississippi State (7-2) on the road next Saturday.
