Alabama defeats Tennessee to open conference play

No. 14 Tennessee (9-3, 0-1 SEC) lost at No. 19 Alabama (10-3, 1-0 SEC), 73-68, Wednesday.

The contest was both teams Southeastern Conference opening game for the 2021-22 season.

Junior forward Olivier Nkamhoua led the Vols in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Junior guard Santiago Vescovi totaled 13 points and six rebounds for the Vols. Freshman guard Zakai Zeigler scored 11 points and had four assists in his first start for Tennessee.

Senior Noah Gurley led Alabama with 20 points.

Tennessee hosts Ole Miss Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. EST. The game will be televised by SEC Network.
