Alabama DB Kyriq McDonald collapses on sideline

There was a scary moment on the Alabama sideline during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

According to the ESPN broadcast, Kyriq McDonald, a freshman cornerback for the Crimson Tide, collapsed while standing “in the bench area” late in the third quarter. He immediately was given medical attention and a stretcher was brought out.

After he was attended to by Alabama’s trainers, McDonald was driven off the field while on a stretcher. Fortunately, he was sitting up and appeared to be alert. ESPN sideline reporter Tom Rinaldi gave a positive report on McDonald’s status, saying he was “awake and conscious.”

McDonald, a true freshman from Madison, Alabama, has not appeared in a game for the Tide this season. He was a four-star recruit in the 2017 class.
