Alabama assistant coach Charlie Henry set to become Georgia Southern’s head coach
Alabama assistant coach Charlie Henry is set to become Georgia Southern’s next head coach. According to Nick Kelly of Tuscaloosa News, Henry will remain on the Alabama coaching staff throughout the entirety of the Crimson Tide’s postseason run.
Henry joined the Alabama coaching staff in 2019. He had previously served as an assistant coach with Iowa State and the Chicago Bulls. In addition, he was an assistant on Nate Oats’ staff at Romulus High School from 2009-2010.
Henry is well-known for his defensive coaching style. He has been one of the key assistants on Alabama’s staff along with other key assistants Antoine Pettway and Bryan Hodgson.
His first head coaching opportunity will come next season at Georgia Southern. The Eagles finished this past season with a 17-16 record and seventh in the Sun Belt Conference. Henry’s emphasis on defense could help the Eagles be competitive sooner rather than later.
