Ajax 0-2 Brighton: Key stats

  • Brighton have become the first side to win each of their first two meetings with Ajax in major European competition since Mallorca in 1999, while they are the first English side to do so since Tottenham in 1981.

  • Brighton have scored in 24 of their last 25 games in all competitions, failing to do so only in a 1-0 League Cup defeat to Chelsea in September. The Seagulls have scored 50 goals since the start of that run, with only Manchester City (66) and Liverpool (57) netting more among Premier League sides across the same period.

  • Ajax have failed to score in consecutive major European games for the first time since December 2020, a run which also included a blank against an English side (v Liverpool in the Champions League).

  • Only Florian Wirtz (six) has recorded more Europa League assists since the start of last season than Simon Adingra (five). Adingra has been directly involved in four goals across his past three starts in the competition (one goal, three assists), after failing to be involved in a single strike across his first two starts.

  • Brighton's Ansu Fati has scored two goals across his past two appearances in European competitions, as many as in his previous 18 such matches combined. Fati (21y 9d) also became the youngest player to score two or more goals for an English side across a single Europa League campaign since Bukayo Saka (19y 222d) in 2020-21.

  • Tonight, Brighton became just the second team to start with three different Dutch players in a European match against Ajax (Verbruggen, van Hecke, Veltman), after Belgian side Mechelen fielded four Dutch starters in May 1988.
