AJ Brown turns Tennessee Titans trade into Super Bowl berth with Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA — Nine months after a stunning, draft-night trade sent wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans to the Philadelphia Eagles, the two-time Pro Bowler is on his way to the Super Bowl.

With a 31-7 win over San Francisco in Sunday’s NFC Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field, Brown and the Eagles secured the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance since 2017.

Brown, who leads the Eagles this season with 1,524 receiving yards, finished with an uncharacteristic four receptions for 28 yards with no touchdowns.

All four of Brown’s receptions came in the first quarter. He was targeted eight times in a game where the Eagles went with a run-heavy game plan after building an early lead.

With the win, Brown earns the first Super Bowl appearance of his four-year career, though he appeared in the playoffs with the TItans the previous three years.

Despite a lackluster performance on Sunday, Brown’s Super Bowl berth is a reminder of what could have been for the Titans, who missed out on the playoffs this season for the first time since 2018 after suffering a season-ending loss to Jacksonville in Week 17.

The Titans traded Brown to the Eagles for the No. 18 and No. 101 overall picks in the 2022 Draft on April 28. The receiver signed a four-year, $100 million contract with Philadelphia later that day.

In his last season as a Titan, Brown registered 879 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. Through 19 games as an Eagle, he has nearly doubled his yardage total from last year with and has more than twice as many touchdowns with 11.

Brown and the Eagles will play the winner of Cincinnati and Kansas City for a Super Bowl title on Feb. 12.
