Agent: Derrick Favors agrees to 2-year, $36M deal to return to Jazz
Free agent Derrick Favors has agreed to a two-year, $36 million deal to return to the Utah Jazz, his agent, Wallace Prather, told Yahoo Sports.
Favors and his agent met with top Jazz officials, including general manager Dennis Lindsey and head coach Quin Snyder, on Sunday in Atlanta and worked to finalize an agreement Monday. The Jazz prioritized re-signing Favors, a stalwart in the starting five who provides reliable offense and rebounding. Favors averaged 12.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 77 starts last season.
Favors’ deal has a base salary of $16 million per season and could reach $37 million in incentives, league sources said.
Favors was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft to the Nets and was moved by the team in his rookie season to Utah as part of the Deron Williams trade. Favors has spent most of his eight NBA seasons with the Jazz and has averaged 11.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in his career.
In 2017-18, Utah went 48-34 in the regular season and won its first-round playoff series against Oklahoma City. The Jazz also have worked to re-sign restricted free agent guards Dante Exum and Raul Neto.
Favors, a native of Atlanta, entered the NBA after a standout freshman season at Georgia Tech.
