Adrian Peterson is very optimistic about his dislocated shoulder
UPDATE: Tests showed that Adrian Peterson suffered a shoulder strain after dislocating his shoulder on Monday night, NFL Network reports. He will seek a second opinion, but expects to play next week, according to the report.

Monday wasn’t a great night for the Washington Redskins, who lost to the New Orleans Saints 43-19 in an absolute blowout. It didn’t end up being a great night for Redskins running back Adrian Peterson, either. After rushing for six yards and catching two passes for 36 yards, he left the game after just two snaps in the second half. According to ESPN’s John Keim, Peterson dislocated his shoulder on a play late in the first half. After a 24-yard reception, Peterson was tackled as he ran up the left sideline.

This could be bad news for Peterson, who has looked almost like his old self since signing with the Redskins. For the season, he’s rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns on 60 carries. That’s not absolute peak Peterson, but considering that he’s 33, that’s more than simply “good.” And recovering from a dislocated shoulder could definitely put a damper on that.
But it doesn’t seem like Peterson is too concerned with the injury. Here’s what he said about his shoulder after Monday’s game:
“It’s not going to keep me out. I came back into the game. It was just a situation where it was sore. I just popped it back in, braced it up at halftime and got back in there.”
First: ow, ow, ow, ow. Peterson dislocated his shoulder, popped it back in, braced it and then went back on the field. That might be why he only lasted two plays into the second half.
But Peterson obviously doesn’t think this injury is going to keep him out long. Is he being a little too optimistic about his return time? Possibly. No one, including Peterson, will know for sure what the damage is until he has an MRI, which is set for Tuesday.
