Addison Massey, of Las Cruces, earns Gatorade Player of the Year award

Jan. 17—Las Cruces High sophomore Addison Massey separated herself at net last season in a state championship season for the Lady Bulldawgs' volleyball team.

The 6-footer was possibly the most fearsome and effective hitter among the state's Class 5A hitters, registering 450 kills for Las Cruces, plus another 249 digs. She had 22 kills in the championship match against Cibola.

Last week, Massey was chosen as the Gatorade New Mexico Player of the Year.

She finished with a .455 kill percentage, and a .299 hitting percentage, and was named to the first team in Class 5A All-State voting.
