Ada sophomore qualifies for 4A State
Oct. 26—WAURIKA — Ada High School sophomore Nina Benton qualified for this weekend's Class 4A State Cross Country Meet after a solid showing at last Saturday's regional tournament in Waurika.
Benton finished the 2-mile race with a time of 15:10.31 and placed 44th out of 78 total runners.
Other Lady Cougars regional runners included Lyssandre Brun (16:10.12) and Reilly Vietzke (16:27.70).
Ada didn't have enough female runners to qualify for the team standings.
The Ada High boys team placed 13th at the 4A Regional but didn't qualify any individuals for the state meet.
Senior Carlos Morales led the Ada contingent with a time of 20:24.79. Ada teammates Ben Rhynes (21:47.17), Brock Gage (22:02.60) and Michael Black (22:03.25) were bunched together when they crossed the finish line in the 5K race.
Other Ada runners included Augustin Palma (22:48.42), Timothy Butler (23:15.68) and Erik King (24:45.39).
Benton will head to the Class 4A State Cross Country meet to be held Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School. The girls race is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.
